1st Rajah Tourism Knowledge Center Academe Partners' Research Training Seminar

Back in 2019, with the vision of creating a deeper culture of research through capacity building, the Tourism Knowledge Center (TKC) and its Review Committee envisioned an event aimed at encouraging academic research that would address current issues of the tourism industry. This concept was proposed for collaboration with the Academe Partners and so, the 1st Tourism Knowledge Center Academe Partners’ Research Training Seminar (RTS) was created.
The project’s main objective is to provide new techniques and to re-acquaint participants who are members of the Academe Partner HEIs, on how to write a publishable article through a series of Workshop Days. With a minor schedule setback due to the covid-19 pandemic, the project’s successful launch happened in March 2022 during the Fellows’ Briefing and Orientation Day.
Followed by a 3-Day Workshop that were all held via Zoom:
In April 07, 2022 and co-hosted by The Lyceum of the Philippines University, Manila as Workshop Day 1, invited Senior Education Program Specialist under Planning and Research at the Department of Education, Mr. Ivan Brian Inductivo who discussed about Understanding the Nature of Research.
In June 16, 2022, in a hyflex set-up by the University of Santo Tomas as our co-host for the Workshop day 2, their resource speaker Asst. Prof. Jeremaiah M. Opiniano, Ph. D., Assistant Director of the University’s Research Center for Social Science and Education has guided our Fellows on how to create their Research Design.I
In August 18, 2022, during the Workshop day 3, co-hosted by the Far Eastern University, the invited speakers Ms. Eylla Laire M. Gutierrez, Research Manager of Asian Institute of Management Dr. Andrew L. Tan Center for Tourism; Ms. Fely Rose V. Manaois, Former Coordinator for the Learning Language Center of the Far Eastern University, and Mr. Jovito Jose P. Katigbak, Research Specialist from the Foreign Service Institute guided our Fellows in creating a Coherent and Cohesive Research Papers.
After the series of workshops, in a Paper Presentation co-hosted by the PATTS College of Aeronautics in September 02, 2022 the fellows were given a chance to virtually present their paper proposals to the TKC Review Committee Panel, composed of : 1. Dr. Ma. Christina G. Aquino, industry consultant and immediate past chairperson of the Tourism Industry Board Foundations Inc (TIBFI); 2. Mr. Rolando Cañizal, industry consultant and former Undersecretary of the Department of Tourism; 3. Dr. Michael Joseph S. Diño, Research and Development Director of Our Lady of Fatima University Valenzuela; and our RTS Lead Advisors: 4. Dr. John Paolo Rivera, Associate Director, Associate Director of Dr. Andrew L. Tan Center for Tourism, Asian Institute of Management; and 5. Dr. Maria Cherry Lyn S. Rodolfo, Advisory Board Member of Dr. Andrew L. Tan Center for Tourism, Asian Institute of Management. The review committee’s comments and inputs were used by our fellows as guide to improve their paper proposals and as they proceed to gather data for analysis.
The maiden run of the 1st Rajah Tourism Knowledge Center Academe Partners’ Research Training Seminar came to a close with the 1st in-person gathering post-pandemic with the Output Dissemination co-hosted by The Lyceum of the Philippines University, Manila which was held at The Bayleaf, Intramuros. The fellows were given a chance to respectively present manuscript in a public venue attended by all members of the Rajah TKC Academe Partners, as they present their research output to the Review Committee for concluding inputs prior to submitting their papers for publication in the fellows preferred journals:
- Mr. Frederick Ang and Ms. Marga Clarence Perez, from De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde: A Comparative Study of the Travel Confidence of Filipino Millennials and Gen Zs in the New Normal: A Phenomenological Approach
- Ms. Shirley V. Bron and Ms. Maria Criselda I. Desolo, from PATTS College of Aeronautics: Bridging the Gap between Online Learning and Social Media: A Syllabus Upgrade for Tourism Management Program
- Ms. Driselle P. Pajuyo, from Far Eastern University, Manila: Pandemic Adaptation and Innovation: The Case of Casual Dining Restaurants in Metro Manila, Philippines
- Ms. Jinky Rose P. Gino-gino from the University of Santo Tomas: Revitalizing Southeast Asia's UNESCO Marine World Heritage Sites: A Basis for Proposed Tourism Development Blueprint on Sustainable Tourism through Preservation and Promotion of Material and Non-Material Culture in the Post-COVID Era under ASEAN's Sustainable Tourism Development Framework; and
- Mr. Danilo Balaysoche I and Ms. Jannin S. Arnaldo: Community Engagement in Developing Green Tourism Corridor: Interest and Insights
