There are now over three million users of the Safe, Swift and Smart Passage (S-PaSS) travel management system, the one-stop online communication and coordination platform for travelers and local government units (LGUs), Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Fortunato de la Peña reported on Friday.
Developed by DOST Region 6, the S-PaSS enables travelers to digitally check travel policies and requirements, apply for the necessary travel documents and acquire the approved documents online.
Using the same platform, the LGUs can post their latest travel policy and travel requirements publicly.
"S-PaSS is a Filipino innovation that aims to facilitate travels amid the (coronavirus disease 2019) pandemic. It was developed so that the public could travel safely, and swiftly, without the need to sacrifice their health and safety," he said in a virtual presser.
De la Peña noted that the S-PaSS is an easy-to-use, web-based application.
Enhancements were made to provide a better user experience to travelers and LGUs. These include a more intuitive graphical user interface; visually appealing graphics and color scheme; streamlined navigation; and mobile-responsive layout.
According to de la Peña, the LGUs can use the S-PaSS to monitor data in real-time. This would help our governors and mayors to take immediate actions, such as imposing quarantine restrictions.
"We look forward to our partnerships with other agencies, particularly the DILG (Department of the Interior and Local Government). We have high hopes in transferring the technology later in response to the clamor of many stakeholders from the different LGUs to harmonize S-PaSS and the different contact tracing apps," he said.
