El Nido Resorts Sustainability and Resilience
El Nido Resorts (ENR) is a global brand that focuses on sustainability and resilience through the quadruple bottom line strategy that the company employs to advocate responsible tourism and exercise stewardship over its natural environment. ENR is an example of a brand that operates by creating both economic and societal values through community engagement and environmental stewardship.
ENR offers its best practice of combining sustainability efforts from the national government, NGOs, private sector, and the local communities to achieve genuine ecotourism. The concept and activity of ecotourism is not just about taking tourists out to see nature. Environmental protection and visitors’ experience are now being given emphasis. Experience is the by-product the visitors/tourists would bring home to their respective companies and countries.
The travel and tourism (T&T) industry is continuously improving its operations, performance, and product offerings to meet the demands of globalization. The opulence of the industry is measured by the volume of tourists it services, and the manner by which the various components of its value chain (i.e. hotel and accommodations, transportation, attractions, tour guides, and other complementary facilities) are managed to make the tourists’ experiences unique and authentic.
The travel and tourism (T&T) industry has evolved from being a fringe sector of the economy to a mainstream economic driver. According to the World Travel and Tourism Council, the year 2013 proved to be another successful year for the T&T industry. Visitor exports (the measure of money spent by international tourists) increased by 3.9 percent at a global level to USD 1.3 trillion, and by over 10 percent within Southeast Asia.
