Managing overcrowding in tourism destinations
Overcrowding in tourism destinations is a problem which will only be fixed by long-term planning involving all stakeholders, not short-term knee-jerk reactions.
The Study Identifies what is ‘overcrowding’ is and where the problem is manifest before looking at guidance and tools to tackle the problems and determine a framework for companies and destinations to follow for the future.
The report attempts to cut through media hype around the issue, to understand the nature of the problems at hand, and identify specific solutions which can make a real difference. The findings in the report build on an analysis of tourism data as well as research on specific destinations and dozens of interviews with tour operators, tourism authorities, hospitality providers, airlines, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), academics, and think tanks.
